This document provides a high-level description of the deployment process for Microsoft Windows Vista, formerly code-named WIndows "Longhorn", in the Beta 1 timeframe. It includes an introduction to the tools and processes involved in creating a deployment image, maintaining the image, uploading the image to Windows Deployment Services (WDS), and deploying the image to client computers.
This guide is designed for deployment specialists who will be responsible for the deployment of Microsoft Windows operating systems in an organization. This guide assumes that you have a working knowledge of common desktop deployment technologies, networking components such as Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain Name System (DNS), and Active Directory directory service.
